Music at St. Paul’s

‘Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.’

Choral music has played an important role at St. Paul’s since we first opened our doors in 1865. Professional musicians have been employed here since the late 19th century, and one of the Episcopal Church’s most distinguished hymn writers, Howard Chandler Robins, served as Rector from 1905-1911. More recently John Harms, founder of what is now the Bergen Performing Arts Center, served as Organist and Choirmaster in the mid-twentieth century. Today we offer choral programs embracing singers from all ages, providing a rich offering of music for our worship and for the community. We offer free concerts throughout the year in our historic sanctuary as a gift of beauty and refreshment to our community. Come and join us!

St. Paul’s Choir School
St. Paul’s Choir School is based on the idea that all children are able to sing, given encouragement and instruction. We offer free music education and performance opportunities for girls and boys, kindergarten through high school, including piano and voice instruction and handbells. The School is a musical and
 educational outreach of St.
Paul’s Church in Englewood, New Jersey. While
many such programs charge tuition, we do not. We accept children from Englewood and surrounding communities, all economic circumstances, and all faith traditions—all are welcome. Choristers need not be members of St. Paul’s; they must only agree to rehearse and perform as scheduled.

Music at St. Paul’s Series
We are delighted to offer a series of programs highlighting local and international singers, instrumentalists, and choirs in a welcoming, sacred space. Our series has included the Merton College Choir from Oxford University in England, the Mack Brandon Quartet, the Monticelli Cello Trio, Soprano Willsonia Boyer, St. Peter’s Symphonic Winds, the Verisimo String Quartet, and our own St. Paul’s Choir School. Suggested donation for each event is $20; $10 for students and seniors. Your gifts and donations help defray the cost of each program. Free parking is available and a reception follows each program. Hear our parishioner Azim Mayadas’ beautiful Adagietto for Strings played by the Verisimo String Quartet.
